Kalavryta
Kalavrita’s name means “good waters” and in fact the mountain town built at 750 meters is blessed with plenty of running water. I t is located in Achaia at the foot of Mount Helmos and is 30 km away from Hotel Theasi.
It is known for its place in history, its burning by the German forces in WWII, which is remembered in its museum and memorials. One should also visit:
- Monastery of Agh. Lavra with its historic Banner of 1821
- Mega Spilaio, dating from 362 AD which is the oldest monastery in Greece dedicated to its huge rock and the ikon of the Virgin painted in mastic and wax by the Evangelist Luke.
